Mission Ubabalo

I’m touched by God’s Grace! Jesus died for me so I live in His freedom, in an intimate relationship with the Father. His love for me has conquered my heart. It has turned my world upside down.
His grace has opened up my eyes. I see the injustice of children abandoned by their parents, living on the streets. I see the emptiness in their eyes. No hope, no future. They often escape from reality by using drugs, just to forget and ignore their hopeless situations. A lot of children get involved in crime, violence and prostitution.
This brokenness intensely moves my heart. They are abandoned by society! But in Gods eyes they are precious! Jesus died for those young, valuable people to give them hope! To give them new life! The Holy Spirit awakened in me a holy discontent resulting in a desire to do something about this injustice. He has led me to a great project: the “Ubabalo eAfrica” (= Grace for Africa) youth soccer project!

Vision and Mission

My vision is that children living on the fringes of society know the saving love and power of Jesus Christ and have fair and full opportunities to develop themselves to become worthy members of society.
By His grace I will reach out by supporting in soccer and life-coaching activities. Continuously prayer for the power of the Holy Spirit is a requisite for successfully working in this mission.

Ubabalo Project

The average age in Africa is only 19.5 years old. Many of the young people are orphans of war, HIV/AIDS, crime and poverty. Fatherlessness is the key word. Most issues plaguing the communities could be traced back to the lack of leadership in the family unit. So there was a need to reverse the fatherlessness in Africa and reinstate the father figure or role model first into the family and then to society. Sport has the power to changes lives, bridge cultures, and transform communities.

Ubabalo eAfrica is a project of the South African Sports Coalition (SASCOL).
The objective of Ubabalo eAfrica is to transform youth through whole life coaching. Ubabalo eAfrica has developed a comprehensive curriculum where life skills are incorporated in the soccer skills. It is a holistic coaching approach, meaning that every aspect of one’s being is captured:

•
•
•
•
•
Emotional
Intellectual
Physical
Social
Environmental

Ubabalo eAfrica is represented in 35 African countries and over 85 countries globally. There are many great stories of the positive impact of this project!

21 May 2011 I departed to South Africa (Stellenbosch) for about 6,5 months. I worked there as a volunteer for the “Ubabalo eAfrica” youth soccer project. I am back in the Netherlands from where I hope to continue working with Ubabalo and other strategies of CYCAS (Community Youth Children and Sport).

My goal is being able to apply the Ubabalo concept in an international context. Activities are among others:
•
•

•
Attending training sessions at the field
Assisting a Global Facilitator by visiting projects in South Africa and Latin America (Brazil and Argentina)
Proposing suggestions for organizational development

I’ve composed a home front team, who supports me with:
•
•
•
Prayer
Communication (website/flyers) > www.missionubabalo.com
Fundraising

Furthermore, I get full support of my local church > www.debronhg.nl

Sponsoring

My choice has the consequence that I have become dependent on donations. These are necessary for among others cost of living, housing, and travel. Your donation is highly appreciated!

I am currently in a process of reflection and discovering what God has in store for me.
